Slipping through a hidden door in the back of the inn, you take the weathered staircase down into the city's underbelly, armed with your usual trade — information. The dimly lit tunnels are the key to maintaining your foothold in the city, and you know the dark doorways and caverns like the back of your hand. The sweet smell of dark currants mingles with the hazy, illicit pull of absinthe and smoky incense as you make your way through to the King's Quarters, thinking through the secrets you hold as currency.

TENDING THE FLAME
- —Trim the wick to 1/4" before every burn for a clean, even flame.
- —On the first lighting, let the wax pool reach the edges of the vessel — usually 2 to 3 hours.
- —Burn no longer than 4 hours at a time to protect the vessel and keep the scent balanced.
- —Keep the candle away from drafts, children, pets, and anything that can catch fire.
- —Never leave a burning candle unattended; extinguish fully before leaving the room.
- —Stop burning when about 1/2" of wax remains to avoid overheating the vessel.
